We are a family of horse people and would love to share our 68-acre Ranch with you. 

History

Our family is heavily involved in education and supporting the 4h and FFA programs since the 1940s. 

My Father Dan Coutolenc was in 4H for many years and was the Chico High FFA president from 1953 to 1955. 

Today Dan's Grandkids continue the tradition of being part of the Butte County 4H Equine Group and the FFA. 

We will donate a spot for kids that live in town and want to do an animal project but don't have the land to do so. 

Freedom Riders of Chico

To continue giving back to our community we have started  the Freedom Riders Program a therapeutic riding program in Chico Ca located at Rose Lane Stables.  

We have found a huge need and have been asked by many to start a program that meets the therapeutic riding needs / horsemanship of Butte County and surrounding areas. 

This program provides horses as a healing therapy to help individuals with different physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. 

We believe that horses have the power to change lives for the better.

About our Staff

Blake - Owner RLS / Ranch Office Manager & Emcee
Blake runs the ranch office and oversees the daily operations at Rose Lane Stables. Although he was raised in Minnesota, Blake spent his summers in Chico, where his connection with horses began. He became more actively involved in the horse world in the 1990s and now brings over 20 years of hands-on experience to the stables.

Blake has worked on large cattle ranches pushing cattle, enjoyed pleasure riding, and supported youth as both a Sponcer and Dad of 4-H and FFA kids. His deep understanding of ranch life and horsemanship makes him an invaluable part of the Rose Lane team.

In addition to his ranch work, Blake is well known for his distinctive voice as the emcee at local horse shows and various events throughout the state.

Jenn -  Freedom Riders Director / Lesson Coordinator

Jenn oversees the daily operations of the Freedom Riders program, bringing over 20 years of experience as a dedicated horsewoman. Her background includes training, teaching, organizing events, and working closely with new riders of all ages and skill levels.

She is passionate about building community and creating connections within the horse world, and has long supported youth development as both a 4-H and FFA Mom.

With a deep understanding of horsemanship and a commitment to inclusion and education, Jenn plays a vital role in the success and spirit of the Freedom Riders program.

Megan [Meg] – Equestrian & Instructor
Meg is a highly accomplished rider with over 10 years of experience in the horse world. She has been actively involved in organizations such as United States Pony Club, Butte County 4-H Equine Group, (CSHA), and has competed in numerous independent shows.

A multi-time ribbon winner, Meg has earned Grand Champion titles and buckles in both English and Western disciplines.

Passionate about welcoming others into the equestrian community, Meg enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience to help riders of all levels feel confident and supported at Rose Lane Stables.

McKenna ( Kenna )- Trainer

Kenna is an experienced horsewoman with 12 years of horsemanship, training, and competition under her belt. She participated in the TIP (Trainer Incentive Program) with the Mustang Heritage Foundation and proudly placed in the Arizona TIP Challenge in 2018.

Kenna has taught and ridden for a local non-profit horse rescue in Chico, where she helped rehabilitate and educate both horses and riders. One of her proudest accomplishments is starting her own Mustang—from a 6-month-old green filly to a confident, well-rounded 7-year-old under saddle.

A multi-ribbon winner in Western disciplines, Kenna brings a calm, grounded energy to both horse and human interactions. She graduated from Core High School and now attends Butte College, while also working as a dog trainer at Ridge Side K9 and continuing to pursue her passion for horses.

Casey (CJ ) - Ranch Hand 

 Though Casey spent several years riding horses, he discovered his true passion in training wild burros. As a TIP (Trainer Incentive Program) Burro Trainer, he placed in the 2018 Arizona TIP Challenge, working through the BLM Wild Burro Program.

Casey is the proud caretaker of two BLM burros—Beaker and Silent Bob—affectionately known around Rose Lane Stables as the "Donkey Mafia."

A student at Pleasant Valley High School, Casey also played football as well as a member of the House of Blue and is a former member of the Shasta 4-H Archery and Goats projects. With 9 years of experience in the horse world, he now helps out around the ranch wherever needed, bringing dedication and a great sense of humor to the team.

Howie- Ranch Hand

Howie rode for pleaser and he is the quiet workhorse around RLS. Howie is a Core Butte student and loves to help when he is not studying. He helps maintain the property, feeds, waters and helps where needed.
